Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan: I was notified that this piece of art I did for Wizards of the Coast : Dungeons & Dragons has recently been released.
Feels like I did this artwork almost a year ago, but I am not sure. I do remember liking the other sketch more, and I think I still do. Hmmmm....what do you think  ?

While I love the details and colour scheme in the original, my eyes were very confused by proportion/perspective. I think the lack of shadows in the wall opposite of the viewer mixed with the odd slanted foundation had me assuming that the volume in this scene was ridiculously compressed.

Jonathan - THanks so much for the comment/ crit. I have to absolutely agree with you - I think one of the things bothering me about this piece is that "compressed" perspective. Really appreciate the insight. Perspective has been tough for me for a while, and while I've gotten better, I'm still far from where 'd like / need to be. Taking an online course with James Paick now which is helping actually!

Oh man! I saw the thumbs for this one. Turned out sweet.

I actually kinda dig the unreal perspective. The space is odd, but those decoractive sculptures and engravings are nice as hell.

Hey dude! Yeah - you were there from the beginning! :)

Thanks man - Sometimes I really dig "off" perspective- like when Sterling H. or Jon Foster really pushes it. Probably could have been improved in this case.

Woah! creepy in a good way, Scott. I like the current one because the focus stays in one place.. I like the other one for the dynamic of it.. the focus splits into 2 parts though. Both will work for different effect, but that's just my personal opinion :D

Looking great, man :)

Awesome! I really like this one, reminds me a little bit of Diablo 2 ;) (too nerdy of a reference?) I am torn on which composition I like more, I can see why they went with the 2nd though, the larger subject centered really solidifies it and had a bit more of a menacing tone to it. Either one would've turned out awesome though, as you've totally rocked it, that's obvious :)

Great to see some new stuff popping up on the blog!

I loove this concept and the (amazing) use of light that you have in ur drawings. And the millions details give me a great vision (and beautiful too).

Cheers amigo : )

Great richness to all the textures and surfaces - not sure how you do it. There are amazing greens and blues radiating from different corners of the painting - really makes it alive.

This drawing blew my mind when I focused on it beyond the thumbnails. I thought the creature was in the wall due to the lack of shadow and the issues with the values. To me it was like a painting on the wall coming to life and about to burst out of the flat surface.

Turns out you didn't do that on purpose so I'm a bit disappointed... you should've claimed you did! :)

Really great work man, I actually liked the version you didn't color better also.

I like it, very athmospheric. The old school Halfling Thief really looks cool, no big swords or silly armour, just old school goodness.

wren - thanks so much bud! Looking forward to your next blog post :)

Niva- That's actually a really cool idea! For this cover the description was VERY specific...almost everything you see was actually in the description of what I needed to put in the composition. It made it a little tricky . Thanks for your comment though - much appreciated!

ATOM- thanks so much! I've never been a huge fan of the big armor thing....sometimes it looks cool but I can't help but think " Man - this person is going move like a snail with all this armor" .Which is kind of the exact opposite of what you would hope a kickbutt warrior would be.
