1.11.08 - Self-Portrait w/ Fossa

Hadn't done a self portrait in ages and was looking for a good warm up . I wanted to do a profile since I have been genetically engineered for caricature. Took a quick snapshot with the webcam for reference and began drawing and painting digitally as I normally would. It came pretty fast and was pretty fun to have a good laugh at myself. Fellow artist , Lars Grant West recently sent me an email with the animal , the fossa. I was fascinated by the creature, and still am. For no other reason except wanting to paint the fossa I threw it in there as well.
I'm sure the animal will turn up again in other paintings- it's the coolest.

Fossas look like zombified vampire kittens to me... I wonder if this one here is some kind of symbolic figure within your self portrait? Hmmm.

Nice job on the portrait, dude. You really nailed that five o'clock shadow in shadow too.
