It certainly has been awhile. Work has been real busy-of course mostly images I can't show for about a year- and I got a nasty cold on top of all that. Slowly recovering, and taking some time to relax this weekend. Some beach air should be good for me.
I do hope to keep my posts more regular, but I have a feeling with my upcoming summer schedule it will be very busy and I may neglect this blog. I will do my best not to be a stranger in this blogspace.

For now - here's a private commission I did for a gentleman who wanted his wife and son in an unconventional portrait. He liked the "dark fairy tale" look of some of my work and I shot him over this sketch of his family peacefully boating around in a sea beast's mouth while a carnivorous umbrella joins them for the ride.

10" x 10"
acrylics and a bit of oil on wood panel

Water doesn't seem to wrap around the sea beast?

That umbrella is so clever. :) But I love how the mother still maintains this wistful look. Almost like "All this creepiness around me isn't going to stop me from enjoying my moment and looking beautiful while I'm at it."

Nice sketch. I like the color. Solid piece. Who'd want a plain 'ol portrait when you could have one of these. I can't help but see a story here. Here's my little thought: (it wouldn't be easy to pull off though) I'd like to see the umbrella as translucent, slightly brighter inside and some of its color on mom. The light is coming from in at 3/4 upper left so I think you'll see what I mean. It's still in sketch form here but maybe you've done the painting already. In that case forget it.

Hey, I had that summer cold too. It sure did a number on me. Because of it and other problems my blog suffered some as well. It's great to see you back at it.
