Snow Day 3.2.09
Found a bunch of images I did that seemed to have been released lately, and felt it would be cool to share and get some thoughts. I might not say it enough, but critiques are always welcome. Feel I really need to step it up lately - getting a bit too comfortable if that makes any sense. The gears are turning though, and I'm looking forward to improving.

This is a cover for a guitar sticker book I did for Dover Publishing. As someone who likes to make noise with guitars, this was a cool project. digital on computer :)

This was my first wrap-around book cover, done for Random House / Golden Books for Young Readers. It's a really fun book that definitely has appeal for multiple age groups. I don't think I've ever done an illustration without a figure , so this was a challenge. Check out the author's site here : Chris Grabenstein

Another World of Warcraft card that got released. A little dwarf dude trying to get his mits on a fat mushroom. Kinda trippy, eh? UpperDeck Entertainment / Blizzard Entertainment (da Blizz)

Here's a study/ experiment for something more personal. The plan was to eventually take this to traditional oils. Not pleased with the lighting at all. I think I might go with something along the lines of Zorn's double side lighting. Just not feeling where this is going , so I may just drop it. I'll give it a bit more push and see where it goes.

Thanks again everyone- scott

Congrats on all the great work, Scott! So good to see what you've been up to. That wraparound cover is gorgeous.

Personally, I quite like that last one. Perhaps some shadows in the background would play off the mood a bit?

And as Mike said, gorgeous wraparound cover.

I think all of these are really nice. I guess I can see what you're saying about the last one but I don't think a duel light source would make it better - I like the single somber light source.

Man, I sometimes wish you were doing this stuff when I was 10 or eleven and I could discover your work as a kid, you do the kind of work i was always looking for~stuffed with magic and mystery. Of course I'm glad I found out about you now!

Whoa, Scott. These look really great. That bottom one isn't oil?? Beautiful colors in that. Your a sleeper dude. You lay low for a while then you're like...BAM!! Take THAT!! ;)

Mike- thanks so much man. Always great to hear from you. Your little paintings are right by my side in my studio. Just where I like 'em.

Glendon- thanks sir! Interesting suggestion -i hadn't thought of that. might be interesting to play with.

steve- thanks dude. I agree- I think it may just have to remain a sketch and I'll move on. Not much invested in it, so there's no harm of just leaving it off here. I may give it one more pass and by then I'm sure I'll be bored and sick of it :)

Eric- dude you are too kind . I love it! Haha- thanks so much. Even though we have different approaches to our work technically, I think we aim for a really similar 'spirit' in our work. Dontchya '? :)

Christine rMaK - Thanks so much friendo. Not oil -just art rage and PS . I really like sketching digitally since I can try out ideas SO much faster. The plan was to take it to oils if the sketch worked out, but I'm not feeling it as it stands. Gonna work on it a bit and if it doesn't come together, screw it. Move on to the next. I got unfinished paintings on the easel as it is...I should finish those first!
Thanks again shweetie

Hey man, great stuff. That mushroom man is excellent!
The last one is really interesting, though to me, that girl looks like she's more of an anchor herself rather than someone just cut loose?

That warcraft card is amazing, everything is right on. I personally really like your personal piece, i'd love to see you take that to a finish.

Great stuff! I think they are all strong pieces. The first one looks awesome with all those light sources affecting the figure. I do think that the figure's pose could be a bit more exaggerated. Of course, that's me nitpicking because you asked for crits.

The wrap around and the WoW card look beautiful! I think the last one looks great oo. Of course, you probably don't like it because you had an idea, even if it was vague, in mind.
